Police say they found a Mount Laurel man in possession of pipe bombs inside his car during a traffic stop in Hamilton Township.
Police stopped 51-year-old Jeremy Giliberti in the parking lot of Metro T-Mobile on South Broad Street Wednesday morning. Officials say Giliberti had four pipe bombs on the floorboard of the passenger seat of his green Honda. Witnesses say he was placed under arrest within minutes.
"They were speaking to the guy - two cops. One on each side. Then all of a sudden, they told him to get out of the vehicle, told him to put his hands on the hood of the car,” says Metro T-Mobile employee Maribel Caraballo.
She says the officers told her there were explosives in the Honda and that she needed to move to her car and evacuate.
"I mean, thank God they pulled him over because I'm thinking he has those explosives for a reason,” Caraballo says.
Police then evacuated the T-Mobile, the Smoke Shop and neighboring stores and restaurants.
The New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit was called. Robotics were brought to the scene to remove the devices. Officials say officers found four pipes with caps and green wicks. They say they also found one more device during a search of Giliberti’s home in Mount Laurel.
News 12 New Jersey went to Giliberti’s home, but no one was home.
Giliberti is currently being held in the Mercer County Jail, facing a charge of possession of a destructive device.
